The late Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei

The late Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Culture and Heritage Affairs Advisor at the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Court, was considered a foremost expert and a highly-regarded source of information related to the culture and heritage of the United Arab Emirates.

Al Mazrouei was instrumental in forming policies and initiatives to preserve the country’s national culture and heritage, and perhaps most significantly served as an effective and influential bridge for younger generations of Emiratis to genuinely connect with their history.

Al Mazrouie’s most significant achievements include the registration of falconry as a living human heritage on UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. He was also an active contributor to ‘KALIMA’, the translation project at Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage; the Sheikh Zayed Book Award; the Million’s Poet TV show; the Baynounah satellite TV channel; and the ‘Shawati’ Magazine, a bi-lingual arts and culture publication based in Abu Dhabi.

Throughout his professional journey, Al Mazrouei showcased the nation’s culture and heritage through major cultural events, such as the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX), the International Festival of Falconry, Liwa Date Festival, Al Dhafra Camel Festival and the Baynounah Camel Beauty Competition.

Al Mazrouei passed away in 2014 at the age of 48.
